I have obtained work in the field of conflict resolution through the ACT Forums, and in fact was able to begin my career internationally by obtaining a position in Kosovo. I also received my second position with UNHCR in Sri Lanka through your listserve. I am currently employed by USAID/OTI in a program seeking to promote a negotiated settlement to the longstanding ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka. In my opinion, the ACT website and ACT Forums is without parallel as a resource for those seeking employment in the field of international peacework or domestic conflict resolution practice. On a daily basis, any number of potential positions are presented for the determined jobseeker to pursue, many of them specifically targeted by region or field of expertise.

Numerous internships and networking events are also posted with great regularity. I frequently refer others to this invaluable resource if they are seeking employment in the field of conflict resolution or related fields, such as international development or non-profit management, especially if they are seeking to newly enter the field (which is often quite challenging!) and have never hesitated to do so, as I know they will find many resources that will serve their job search well. You were the first, and in my opinion remain the best, source for employment or volunteership opportunities in this highly specialized and competitive field.

- Lee R. Briggs,USAID/OTI Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist OTI Sri Lanka

Since graduating college, I have used ACT Forums as a vital tool in my professional development. A fellowship I learned about on the website took me to St. Petersburg, Russia to conduct research on FDI inflows in Northwest Russia. I received a consulting assignment with Land O’Lakes International Development in Azerbaijan after learning about the opportunity on ACT Forums which allowed me to manage the partnership development strategy and implementation of a public school health awareness and social marketing campaign. Another job posting on ACT Forums allowed me to serve as Marketing Coordinator for the Special American Business Internship Training Program, a technical assistance initiative of the United States Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration.

The personal insights I gained in these employment experiences are key influencers in my personal and professional development. As an MBA student currently attending Georgetown University, I am now uniquely positioned relative to my peers to lead large scale international development and private sector initiatives in emerging markets. I encourage all individuals interested in the international development community and public-private cooperation to join ACT Forums and leverage the resources to network your way around the world.

- Mr. Wes Schwalje, MBA Student, Georgetown University

I have benefited immensely from being on the ACT Forums.  It was through this forum that I found, applied and received an international fellowship that paid my transportation and living expenses to the Republic of Georgia for seven months to do important research in my field.  When I came back to the U.S. from Georgia, it was through ACT's forum that I found and applied for two paid positions abroad.  I was selected for both positions, and had to decide which job to take!  For those seriously looking for fellowships and job opportunities in the U.S. and abroad, I highly recommend subscribing to ACT's forum.

-Dena L. Hawes, Administrator, Center for World Religions, Diplomacy & Conflict Resolution, & Ph.D. Candidate, Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution, George Mason University

I would just like to comment that the ACT Forums is a unique and beneficial resource for professionals, academics, and community workers who are not only in the field of conflict transformation and peace studies, but also among those devoted to greater social engagement for our communities and our world as a whole. Thank you for building and developing this living, breathing resource!
- Linnea Allison, Senior Program Manager, American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS

ARD, Inc. has accessed the ACT Forums posting services since its inception. We have found this service to be highly responsive in reaching a specialized niche of consultants, particularly those working in areas of conflict sensitivity assessment, mediation, management and transformation as well as other areas related to certain forms of disaster intervention, civil society and governance. In addition, the ACT Forums site is becoming very useful in steering staff and consultants to peer reviewed texts in the conflict literature.
— Donna C. Read, Manager, International Consultant Service, ARD, Inc.

I will not exaggerate at all if I say that this is the best service of the kind available, in my part of the world at least. I check it every day and it keeps me up to date with what is going on. One benefit that I would single out it gave me the info and the opportunity to apply for the master (and scholarship) on local development that I am currently finishing. It is an incredible source of news on events and opportunities.
— Risto Karajkov, Program Officer, Balkan Children and Youth Foundation

The ACT Forums has really been beneficial to me and to my organization back in Kenya. I have been able to get sponsors for human rights projects that we are currently undertaking back in Kenya. I am currently in the Central European University in Hungary on a scholarship which I got to know about thanks to this site. I was also able to participate in human rights conferences in Brazil and South Africa thanks to this site. So I thank all the crew members for the invaluable service that you are giving.
— Issack Otieno, Human Rights Activist from Kenya

The ACT forums are a great source of job postings. I regularly send job and fellowship postings, related to the regions of Russia, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus, to undergraduate and graduate students. Many students have commented that these job postings have been very helpful.
— Lisa Giullian, Advisor/Assistant Director for Student Services, Russian and East European Institute, Indiana University

I would like to acknowledge and thank ACT Forum. Once again you have helped to open an opportunity for me. Through ACT I learned about: The Workshop on Gender-based Violence: Communicating Information and Good Practice Interventions to Policymakers. This was held 2- 13 MAY, 2005 at Nakhon Pathom, Thailand. I applied for their subsidy and was accepted. The workshop, attended by participants from 8 countries in South and Southeast Asia was a very important meeting of minds of men and women working to eradicate gender-based violence in our countries and in the world.

I'm always thankful for your website when I receive emails seeking professional advice from students, recent graduates and even professionals returning from post-conflict jobs overseas.  I've long felt that conflict resolution practitioners need an online gathering place, and will desire even more organizational resources as the field evolves and grows. ACT has provided a very helpful first step in that direction.

-Lorelei Kelly, Senior Associate, Stimson Center, Washington, DC

For more than 2 years we have been using the ACT Forums - and by this means to spread information on the international educational and research possibilities to the students and teachers of the National University of "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy" (NaUKMA), which is nowadays one of the leading Universities in Ukraine. I am Head of the Department for Foreign Cooperation and one of the tasks of my University is to advise and consult the NaUKMA community on the possibilities to participate in different types of the international programs. Therefore, the information we were able to get though the ACT Forums, especially through the Scholarships and Grants sections, is a valuable and effective source for the internationalization of the University.
