Privacy Policy

This page has been written to provide you with as much information as possible so you can make an informed decision. By using the Forums you are consenting to ACT’s use of automatic and personal information provided to ACT when you visit the Forums. This Privacy Policy does not apply to third parties outside of ACT's control, or people that ACT does not employ or manage.

Automatic Information

ACT receives and stores Automatic Information whenever you visit the Forums. Your Internet Protocol ("IP") address is a unique identifier used to connect your computer to the Internet. Your IP address also is stored in ACT’s user registration databases when you register with ACT. IP addresses may be used for various purposes, including to:

  • Help ACT to gather general demographic information;
  • Diagnose problems reported by ACT users or engineers that are associated with the IP addresses controlled by a specific web company or ISP; and
  • Estimate the total number of users visiting ACT from specific countries or regions of the world.
The Announcement Forums use a feature of your Internet Web browser called a "cookie." A cookie is a small piece of information stored on your hard drive that uniquely identifies you. Cookies allow the Forums to remember who you are as you move from page to page. Cookies will not download or install viruses on your computer.

Provided Information

ACT also receives and stores your personal information on secure servers. The types of personally identifiable information that may be collected at the Forums include: name, address, email address, phone number, subscription number, referring URL, IP address, password, and username. You voluntarily provide this personal information when you subscribe for the Announcment Forums.

ACT has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under ACT’s control. ACT is able to keep your personal information safe and secure by utilizing Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption technology. For maximum security, ACT uses a secure server that encrypts your information, including your name, address and credit card number.

Disclosure Exceptions

ACT may disclose information about you (except your credit card number and its expiration date) in the following circumstances:

  • ACT provides the information to trusted partners who work on behalf of or with ACT and under confidentiality agreements. These companies may use your personal information to help ACT communicate with you. These companies and people do not have any independent right to share this information.
  • ACT responds to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to establish or exercise ACT’s legal rights or defend against legal claims.
  • ACT shares information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of ACT's terms of use, or as otherwise allowed by law.

Due to the existing regulatory environment, ACT cannot ensure that all of your private communications and other personal information will always remain private. For instance, third parties may unlawfully intercept or access transmissions. These third-party intrusions are beyond ACT's control.

If ACT transfers the Forums to another nonprofit organization, customer information would generally be one of the transferred business assets. Also, in the event that ACT or substantially all of its assets are acquired, customer information will be one of the transferred assets.

The Forums are operated in the United States. While ACT is committed to providing your information with a high level of privacy protection, you should know that the general level of protection for personal information in the United States may not be the same as that provided in other countries. If you are located outside of the United States, please be aware that any information you provide to ACT will be transferred to the United States. By using this Forums, you fully understand and unambiguously consent to this transfer and the collection and processing of information in the United States.

Policy Changes

ACT will occasionally update this Privacy Policy in ACT’s sole discretion. Such changes and/or modifications shall become effective immediately upon being posted to this page. Without limiting the foregoing, ACT may occasionally notify you by e-mail about changes to the Forums or provide notices of changes by displaying notices or links to notices from the main login page of the Forums. Your continued use of the Forums constitutes your agreement to this Privacy Policy and all of the terms and conditions set forth herein.
